2nd Community Exposure

AUGUST 27 - SEPTEMBER 24, 2022

Barangay Council Meeting

Presenting our initial data to the council, and collaborated for possible plans of action for the residents' identified problems.

Tears

There really are those times when you can't help but get touched by the stories and lives of the community people. This is one of those times.

Barong-barong

A simple makeshift house, but is home to a family of 5. In the community is where we find simple living - a roof over the head and meals to get by the day, but is also where gratitude and contentment are seen best.

Interview

An interview for a Family Health Plan.

Presenting our Master Chef, Rogelle "Gerard" Ramsay.

Mangaun ta! :) Our simple but yummy meal, prepared by one of our Suclema Chefs. *For the record, the chefs are Kuya Rogelle, Ninzky, and Naifa.

Chores, chores, chores...

No one escapes daily chores. Even our boys wash dishes! 🧼🧽❤️

Our very handy gas stove powered by butane. Haha!

Baklay ta

Primary Data Collection through house-to house survey.

Suroy pa!

Equipped with the necessary tools — umbrellas, XL tumblers, ginormous backpacks, and the not-to-forget “sunblock”, we’re more than ready to catch them all (Pokémon!🎶). Oh! “survey” them all is what we actually meant. 😅

Survey

A picture of our group in the very first house we surveyed. We went as one whole group to have a sense of the actual process of the interview before going separately and on our own.

Lex (a.k.a "Jubaika") interviewing one of the residents of Purok Lily.

Rogelle (a.k.a "Master") taking note of the details Lola is telling him.

Buko kayo dyan...

Fresh Buko Juice while doing an interview. Daghang salamat, Ma'am, for sharing a buko from your vast backyard.

Powder sah ta

Retouch sah ta, beh! :D After spending the whole morning doing house-to-house surveys, our oily faces need some freshening up.

Hot Seat

Niña doing a one-on-one interview with our Barangay Captain.

Early Childhood Care and Development

Part of the Under 5 [year olds] Assessment is height measurement. *This photo is posted with the consent and approval of the parent.

After hiking a mile's worth (exaggeration cannot be emphasized more) - one group mate of ours can't seem to steady her gait.

Weak in the knees

These two must have been complaining about their knees getting all stiff walking the whole day. But look how happy they still are. Iba talaga!

Just an ordinary day in Suclema.

Dropping by the Barangay Health Station (BHS) to report our itinerary for the day,

Featuring our "all-terrain" tricycle. Very reliable indeed!

Survey

Lex, with her checklist, is asking a store owner about their access to healthcare services in the Barangay.

Survey

Omar, after doing an interview on water sanitation and food handling practices, is showing the gentleman where to sign his name.

Survey

Naifa asks about family planning while Joseph sits as a spectator (probably judging Naifa's Bisaya speaking skills).

Survey

After asking about childhood immunization, Shelley emphasizes its importance to a mother, who also agreed and was proud to have fully-immunized children. *sharing this photo with approval from the mother

Survey

Nina doing an interview with the Barangay's Indigenous People (IP) Representative, and asking about her top 3 perceived problems/issues in the Barangay.

Survey

Doing a 15 minute interview standing up is easier said than done, especially under the heat of the sun. Note: This Kuya being interviewed readily agreed to be surveyed in this set up. We always ask, we don't leave them with no choice.

Balky

🎶Into the woods without delay, but careful not to lose the way.🎶

Are we there yet?

One big challenge in the community is to ensure inclusion of the majority (if not all) of the residents to properly represent and reflect the Barangay's strength and weaknesses, issues, problems, and concerns, Thus, it is vital to reach the farthest houses even if it meant sore legs at the end of the day.

Survey

Joseph, in a newly constructed house (that's yet to be finished), is interviewing a couple on their solid waste management practices.

Survey

Naifa and Ate sitting on a tree... bench pale. And they're t-a-l-k-i-n-g... about toilet sanitation

Input of Data

After the house-to-house survey, Naifa and Rogelle are busy with inputting their data for tallying.

Data Consolidation

Consolidating our data on the weekends. :) Ninz, our Miss Universe, posing beautifully for the camera.

Data Validation

In the Barangay Health Station (BHS), validating the data we've gathered from our survey.

Turning over of the cake after a farewell walk. Charot! This is actually a photo of Rogelle giving a "thank you" cake for the Suclema Barangay Council; taken a night before leaving Suclema (to go home... to the place where I belong 🎶)
